How to register for a Director ID Number

Let's get your Director Identification number registered. We have created a step by step system to help empower you through the process of applying for your director ID. There are two key parts of this process:

Part 1: Register for your MyGovID (Note:MyGovID is different to MyGov). If you already hold a MyGovID on your mobile device you can skip part one and go straight to part two.

Part 2: Apply for your Director Identification Number (DIN) through the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS).

You will need the following:

* You may be able to find a recent Notice of Assessment on your Bluebird Accounting Client Portal log in here. Accountant practice ID is BLUE0011, your user name will be your email address you registered with and your password. 

Note: The application can be made via paper however this will be a timely process. You can download the document here.

Part 1: MyGov ID

If you already have a MyGovID you can move on to part 2.

If not, Let's get you sorted. You will only need to do this set up process. once as the MyGovID will be registered to you personally indefinitely.

Step 1: Download the MyGov App from either of the below 

AppStore (Apple)
Google Play (android)

Step 2: Enter the details as prompted on the App. You will need to provide:

* Your full name (as stated on your official documents such as drivers licence and ATO account)

* Date of Birth

* Email address

Step 3: Verification of your identity and identity strength.

For the purposes of the Director ID requirements you will need to set up at a minimum Standard identity strength. You can read more here. This means that you need to verify with as least two of the following Australian identity documents listed at #3 above eg, Drivers Licence and Medicare card. Make sure that your names are the same on each document and they match the name you are registering under (more common issue than you may think)!

For strong identification you will need to provide a passport as one of the documents and allow photo verification. More about verifying your identity can be found here.

After providing this information your MyGovID set up should be completed. 

Congratulations you are on the home stretch. Let's get your Director ID.

Part 2: Director Identification Number

Apply through the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS). This process should take approximately 5 minutes. You will need to provide information in this registration that only the ATO knows about you (This is where you will use the information from #4 above) such as: Bank account details listed with the ATO and your address.

Step 1: Log on to the ABRS website by clicking the image below (or here)

Step 2: Scroll down and select 'Apply now with MyGovID' (Step 3 on ABRS website)

This will prompt you to log in with your myGovID using the same email address that you registered your MyGovID with.

Step 3: You will be required to answer two questions regarding your personal information outlined above. You will need to provide either your TFN or address.

Step 4: Read and confirm that you are eligible and you meet the requirements of the Corporations Act 2001.

Step 5: Enter the relevant details

Step 6: You are on the home stretch now. You will now submit your registration and you must print save the confirmation. Please note the information will not be emailed to you, and a copy will be sent to your myGov account if you have one.
